In Mark 6:1–6, Jesus returns to His hometown, where the people recognize His wisdom but struggle to believe in who He truly is. Their familiarity with Jesus breeds unbelief, and Jesus marvels at their lack of faith. In contrast, a Roman centurion’s understanding of Jesus’ authority leads to extraordinary faith. This message challenges us to consider whether familiarity with God has made our faith routine and our relationship with Him mundane. Have we become so accustomed to worship, Scripture, salvation, and God’s goodness that we’ve stopped expecting Him to move? The message reminds us that familiarity should deepen our faith, not diminish it. When the things of God become routine, we risk taking His presence, His Word, our relationships, and the privilege of gathering with the church for granted. Drawing from Revelation 2:4–5, the sermon calls us to remember our first love, repent, and return to the things we did at the beginning. By spending more time with Jesus and intentionally remembering His goodness, grace, mercy, and power to transform our lives, we can renew our wonder and expectation. It’s time to believe again, pray for miracles again, and stop taking God’s goodness for granted.
